Monroe clears waivers, released: The Sports Xchange reports that Craig Monroe, designated for assignment a week ago, went unclaimed on waivers and was released by the Twins on Friday. The Twins must pay Monroe the $1 million or so remaining on his $3.8 million contract, which could be reduced by a pro-rated portion of the minimum salary if Monroe signs with another team this season.
